Full Name: Añuli Ko
DOB: 30th May
Nationality: British (ethnicity: Igbo-Tamil)
Education: Double degree in Linguistics and Computer Science (with a focus on Artificial Intelligence), Advanced hand-to-hand combat and weapons training.
With the discovery on a viable planet (prematurely named New Eden) in our Solar System, the nations of Earth all rushed to put together a terraforming team, with the goal of colonisation for their own country’s interest.
A seemingly benevolent NGO called Kunnan Corp announced their interest in sponsoring the team and also providing a state-of-the-art spaceship, The Hoffen 616 for this venture. They launched a series of flashy adverts to entice young, curious scientists hoping to establish themselves in their fields, including Drs. Jay and Buchi Ko (Astrophysicist and Geoengineer, respectively), a young British couple. And as soon they both were accepted into the program, left their five year old twin girls in the care of Buchi’s parents.
The space launch was broadcasted all over the world and hailed as ‘conquering new frontier’ and the projected ratings of the soon-to-be televised 2 month status update were through the roof but a day before the report was due, Kunnan Corp filed for bankruptcy and charges of fraud were brought against them.
A government-led investigation revealed that the spaceship crashed a day out of Earth’s orbit (due to defective and inferior equipment) and Kunnan Corp had been falsifying data since the launch. The case was soon closed.
Twenty years on, Añuli has never accepted the results of the investigation (it doesn’t help that there are thousands of conspiracy theories surrounding the project) and the government’s refusal to allow an independent inquiry, while her grandmothers made sure she and her sister Amara didn’t want for much, she couldn’t help but feel hard done by , especially when at the last support group meeting (for families of the missing) four years prior, it was announced that the group would be disbanding as it was time to finally ‘move on’.
Añuli has always had a knack for picking up languages quickly so she focused her studies on all the languages spoken by the multinational team of the Hoffen 616 and her A.I. journal article, ‘Beyond Electric Sheep’ is still being highly praised.
She hopes that through the Titan Project she will be able to know more about what happened to her parents and all the people aboard the Hoffen 616.
